Ad Copy Counter

Check every headline, description and primary text against the real limits for Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn, Reddit and X/Twitter, and see where each platform cuts your copy off before you launch.

How to use it

  1. Pick the platform and ad format you're writing for.
  2. Type or paste your copy. Counts update as you type.
  3. Fix anything red (over the limit) or orange (gets cut off).
  4. Export the finished copy as a CSV for your ads manager or a handoff.
This is example copy for a made-up brand. Clear it and type your own.

Questions

What's the difference between red and orange?

Red means the platform won't accept the text; it's over a hard limit. Orange means the ad will run, but the text gets cut off or collapsed behind "See more" in some placements.

Why don't Meta fields turn red?

Meta publishes recommended lengths per placement, not hard caps. Longer text still runs, but it gets truncated, so this tool only warns in orange.

How does X/Twitter count characters?

Each link counts as 23 characters no matter how long it is. Most emoji and Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters count as 2.

How does Google count characters?

Most characters count as 1. Double-width characters, such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean, count as 2.
